Microbubble technology for nanomedicine

Ultrasound is the most widely used medical imaging modality. It offers low-risk and portable imaging and it produces real time images, which can be taken at bedside. Microbubble contrast agents aid in the diagnostic and therapeutic efficacy of ultrasound that includes functional imaging of disease down to the molecular level, and the local and targeted release of drugs and genes. This multidisciplinary field of ultrasound contrast agents combines a mix of fundamental nanotechnologies, interfacial chemistry and microfluidics for the production of the agents, state-of-the-art acoustics, device engineering and integration, as well as clinical translation for a well-controlled, safe and personalized nanomedicine application.

The two speakers of this session in Nano4Health will address the challenges faced in science and technology, as well as the porting of the key enabling technologies to daily clinical practice in cardiovascular and neurodegenerative disease and cancer together with the medical device industry. After the talks from our invited speakers, moderator Douwe Geuzebroek will lead a Q&A discussion. We look forward to your questions and discussion.
