Micro-Nanotechnology

Micro (system) technology is technology that focuses on products and processes on a sub-millimeter, micrometer scale. Formally speaking, this definition includes microelectronics, but given the enormity and early development of that domain, the term micro (systems) technology is mostly used for products and processes related to microscale motion, other than electronic. In particular, it covers electromechanical movement, MEMS, fluid flows, lab-on-a-chip and microfluidics, light, light-on-a-chip, photonics and living organisms, biochips.

Nanotechnology is technology that deals with particles that measure nanometers (one billionth of a meter). In terms of size, this is a scale just above that of atoms (0.060 nm to 0.275 nm) and simple molecules. One criterion is that a structure may not exceed 100 nanometers in at least one dimension. Nanotechnology differs from nanoscience in the sense that nanotechnology is aimed at working with small particles and that nanoscience can be defined as any science that deals with research at the nanoscale.

MinacNed membership

Membership of MinacNed means for you access to a broad network within micro- and nanotechnology in the Netherlands. MinacNed has various roles that we explain below:

  • MinacNed as an industry association: representing the interests of its members towards stakeholders, politics and public opinion within which the ecosystem can network optimally; where societal challenges and enabling technologies meet
  • MinacNed as a knowledge authority for members, SMEs, politicians, talents and stakeholders
  • MinacNed as a mediator with other micro- and nano-related international and national (industry) associations & partners subsidy and financing options: Public Private Partnerships
