Prof.dr. U (Urs) Staufer

Professor at TU Delft, Department of Precision and Microsystems Engineering (PME)

Bio:

Urs Staufer received his PhD in experimental surface physics from the University of Basel, Switzerland, for research on surface modifications by means of the scanning tunneling microscope in 1990. He then worked as a postdoctoral researcher on different microfabrication and MEMS projects at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights (USA), the IBM Research Laboratory Rüschlikon (Switzerland), and the Institute of Microtechnology – Univ. of Neuchatel (Switzerland), where he became associated Professor in 2003.

In 2007 he was appointed full professor for Micro and Nano Engineering in the department of Precision and Micro System Engineering (PME) at the Delft University of Technology, where he introduced Nanotechnology into Mechanical Engineering and researches Scientific Instrumentation. He was department head from 2012 – 2016.

Under his leadership, the department of PME started the NERI nano engineering research initiative, a bottom-up public-private partnership that brings together industrial and academic partner, based on shared research vision and common technology road-mapping.

Ambition for MinacNed:

Establish and culture a constructive dialog between the industrial and the academic branch of the Dutch Micro-Nano Ecosystem. MinacNed must be a forum to share the view on future developments and needs in Micro and Nano Technology, and a platform to find partners for implementing these visions.
