About Saxion

Saxion University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest institutions of higher education in the Netherlands, with close to 27,000 students and is located in Enschede, Deventer and Apeldoorn. Both in its education and in its research there is a strong focus on Living Technology, i.e. the interplay between technology and society.

Research at Saxion is grouped in different clusters, among which the High Tech Systems and Materials. Within this cluster, Nanotechnology is one of the leading subjects, as evidenced in the presence of two research groups, the NanoBio group headed by Martin Bennink and the NanoPhysics group, headed by Cas Damen. Both groups put a strong emphasis on the implementation of new technologies for solving societal challenges. Most research is conducted in close collaboration with companies, mostly SMEs, addressing typical problems encountered when developing new nanotechnological products.

Fields of expertise include photonics, MEMS, microfluidics, testing, nanoparticles, biosensing, organ-on-a-chip, and micro-/nanopatterning of surfaces.
