Microfluidics for Mobile Diagnostics and the Development and Manufacture of Drugs and Vaccines

With the COMPAMED Innovation Forum, current medical technology topics are presented once a year by leading experts and discussed with the participants to identify current challenges and solutions and to prepare them for the relevant topics at COMPAMED, the largest European trade fair for suppliers to medical production.

In cooperation with Messe Düsseldorf, IVAM organizes this year’s COMPAMED Innovation Forum as a digital event on June 16, 2021 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. (CET).

The pandemic has shown us how important modern high technologies are to be able to carry out fast and effective research and development, e.g. for drugs, vaccines or diagnostic devices.

Microfluidic components allow a large number of experiments (high-throughput screening HTS) to be carried out quickly. This makes it possible to carry out a large number of tests in a very short time, e.g. to test the effectiveness of drugs or vaccines on living cells. The speed and accuracy of the tests are achieved, among other things, by the microstructures, which allow much better control of the physical and chemical parameters (e.g. temperature, pressure, reaction time). An additional advantage of these small structures is the low consumption of reagents.

In the last few months, developments of new devices and medicines have been carried out in a very short time. This would not have been possible without microfluidic components. Devices and components such as lab-on-a-chip, mobile diagnostic devices or chemical microreactors are already helping to fight the pandemic.

The lectures will show the individual aspects and possibilities of microfluidic applications. In the subsequent discussions, the users will discuss with the developers. One focus will be the experiences from the pandemic: How can we respond faster and more effectively to challenges such the development of drugs and vaccines for Covid-19?

The lectures will be held in English.

As an additional event, in preparation for the QuApps conference in September, the IVAM Microtechnology Network offers you the virtual event “QuApps Online: Workshop on Applications on Quantum Technologies”. Within the scope of this three-hour event on March 2nd, 2021, the following main topics are discussed:

Status of global activities in the area of quantum computing and quantum sensing

  • Overview of public funding
  • ZEISS Quantum Challenge
  • Panel discussion

Participation is free for people, who have registered for the QuApps face-to-face/hybrid event in September.

Register here now.

More information about the QuApps 2021 event can be found on the IVAM website here.

For the third time, the IVAM Microtechnology Network is going to organize a joint pavilion at CMEF 2021 in Shanghai and is thereby offering an opportunity for high-tech companies to step into the Chinese medical market.

The CMEF, as the Asia Pacific’s leading medical industry platform, will take place from May 13-16, 2021.

The main topics of the CMEF are:

  • medical imaging equipment (X-ray/ultrasound/nuclear medicine)
  • in-vitro diagnostic equipment (IVD)/preparation, laboratory equipment
  • surgery and emergency equipment
  • electro medical devices
  • medical optical equipment
  • medical IT (portable medical) product
  • rehabilitation equipment and homecare equipment
  • mobile medical (APP, dynamic blood sugar, blood pressure, blood oxygen test equipment)
  • wearable equipment

At each fair, almost 4,200 medical device manufacturers from over 28 countries, and about 120,000 visitors and buyers from over 100 countries and regions gather in CMEF for trading and exchanges. CMEF has become the largest professional procurement and trade platform of the medical industry in China, the best corporate image release ground as well as a professional information distributing center and an academic, technical exchanging platform.

Exhibitors of the IVAM joint booth will benefit from several advantages:

  • premium placement with good visibility between the component hall and the international hall
  • trade fair organization and on-site support
  • standard booth furniture
  • accompanying marketing and press campaigns
  • presentation slot at the IVAM presentation platform
  • interpreter support at the joint booth
  • networking activities
  • catering

If you have any questions or want to register, please contact Ms. Orkide Karasu (ok@ivam.de or +49 231 9742 7086).

Antimicrobially equipped surfaces have been used in sensitive areas, like in medical technology, for some time. Triggered by SARS-CoV-2, people are currently being sensitized in their perception of hygiene. The demand for surfaces with antibacterial and antiviral effects is thus increasingly coming to the fore. This type of functionalization is of course indisputably important, especially for objects that are touched frequently.

Symposium on September 16, 2020 in Lüdenscheid, Germany

The conference is dedicated to the possibilities of how surfaces and materials can be specifically modified, coated or disinfected. Mechanisms of action are described and it is explained how the effectiveness can be tested. Speakers from all areas of the value-added chain, from research institutes to experts for testing antimicrobial products and surfaces, as well as system and technology providers and users, will be represented by speakers from all areas of the value-added chain, thus guaranteeing practical and application-oriented technical presentations.

The event will be accompanied by an exhibition of the presenting companies and will take place at the Kunststoff-Institut Lüdenscheid in Germany. Due to the current situation, online participation via video conference is also possible.

The detailed conference program can be found at www.fachtagung-oberflaeche.de.
